Welcome to the official website of the Regional Biofertiliser Development Centre
(RBDC), Imphal, a regional centre under National Biofertilizer Development
Centre, Ghaziabad, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of
Agriculture, Govt. of India.
This centre came into existence in Imphal, Manipur in the year 1990. The RBDC,
Imphal has the fundamental task of promotion of biofertilizers in all the
seven N.E states as well as Sikkim through various training programmes,
workshops, seminars, field demonstrations and farmers training.
A Brief History
To create the awareness about the potentiality and usefulness of
biofertilizers in the country, Ministry of Agriculture,
Government of India initiated a National Project on Use and
Development of biofertilizers in 1988-89 with a National Centre
at Ghaziabad and six Regional centres. To cater to the need of
the N.E. Region Regional Biofertilizer Development Centre,
Imphal was established in 1990-91 with the following objectives:

Production and distribution of quality biofertilizers
on non-commercial basis to demonstrate the commercial
viability of the product.

To identify, select, maintain and ensure availability of
microorganisms used in biofertilizers.

| 3 |
To take up various extension activities such as training
programmes, demonstrations, field days etc for transfer of
biofertilization technology and for popularization of the
biofertilizers among the farmers.

To serve as an information centre for proper spread of
biofertilizer technology.
|
| 5 |
To serve as quality control agency for biofertilizers.
|
| 6 |
To provide necessary technical assistance to the upcoming
production units.
|
| 7 |
To take up effective publicity campaign and to prepare and
make available appropriate literature in the local languages for
the use of all concerned.
8. To take up necessary R&D activities for further
development of the product and technology.
