Under the North East Education
Development project (NEEDP), IGNOU
had established a Regional Centre in Imphal on 1st
December 2000, with the objective of reaching the unreached remote and
disadvantaged distance learners. With the establishment of a Regional
Centre in Imphal all IGNOU Study Centres located in Manipur have come
under the jurisdiction of Imphal Regional Centre. At present there are
seven IGNOU Study Centres in Manipur

IGNOU has two cycles of admission
for the short term (six months) certificate programmes. One cycle of
admission is for January to June academic session. The other for July to
December academic session. For the certificate programmes IGNOU has
introduced a walk in admissions anytime of the year.
However, for the Diploma and Degree programmes admission is held once a
year and the session commences every year from January. The admission
process began with the admission notice in the national and local news
papers somewhere in the month of March/April every year. Thereafter,
Student Handbook & prospectus will be available in the Regional Centre
and all the IGNOU Study Centres.
